Practical notes on raising chickens in the Philippines, with every peso figure sourced.
The outbreak record for this country is public and runs back to July 2017. It says the current wave is landing on bakuran flocks, and BAI pays a registered smallhold 100% of the value of its culled birds against 20% for an unregistered one, at a published ₱100 a head for layers and ₱60 for broilers.
BAI registers 24,120 feed products and its March 2026 list runs to 383 pages. Counted here, 2,453 of them are for chicken, from 109 companies, and not one page carries a price.
Annex F of PNS/BAFS 370:2023 is the whole of the published Philippine schedule: six entries, four ages, no dose column and no backyard column. And the state wrote its bird flu vaccination guidelines 663 days before a bird flu vaccine could legally be bought here.
The grower fee is unpublished in the Philippines, so this is not a peso-against-peso comparison. It is what each arrangement costs you in risk, what the archive can actually price on the independent side, and the ten things to extract from the contract in front of you.
PNS/BAFS 262:2018 counts broilers in kilos and native chickens in birds, and past 2.83 kg a square metre holds fewer broilers than native chickens. Read the two lines against each other and the same square metre carries 3.85 times more live weight of broiler than of native chicken, which is this page's arithmetic on the standard and on a published native mean weight rather than a figure PNS prints.
Nobody publishes eggs per hen per month, so every page that quotes one has divided an annual total by twelve. Here is the whole laying year in 28-day months, differenced out of the breeder standard, priced against the June 2026 farmgate, and set beside the one Philippine backyard flock anybody has actually measured.
At an illustrative ₱1,800 per 50 kg sack the feed bill reads ₱54.00 to ₱65.88 per kilo of liveweight at day 28, at day 35 and at day 42. The harvest day changes how many sacks you buy, not what a kilo costs to grow.
Coco oil is -32.8% over the last year and -15.3% over the last quarter, and +91.0% over three and a half years. One series, one source, one unit. Nobody can answer "did feeds go up" until somebody names the window.
Thunderbird is a gamefowl line with one registered chicken product. Santeh is an aquafeed company whose six chicken products carry a different brand name. The comparison every page runs is a category error, and it is checkable in a government PDF.
PNS/BAFS 262:2018 defines free-range chicken production in real figures: stocking density, pophole spacing, shade area, minimum harvest age. It contains no certification clause, no inspection, no record-keeping and no fee, and the only route by which it binds anybody runs through a different standard entirely.
Four substitutions, one per sack you are standing in front of. Two of them hold at a published ceiling, one holds only if you buy it rather than dry it, and one has a number in the Philippine standard that ordinary ipil-ipil leaf misses by a factor of at least 5,100.
The distance from the gate to the stall has averaged ₱60.50 a kilo since 2018 and sat between ₱50 and ₱75 in 92 of 102 months, while the bird underneath it got 61.1% dearer. It is priced like a service, not like a share of the manok.
The premium is real, sourced and per kilo. The profit is still not computable: the whole published record of what a Philippine native chicken eats is one 20-bird UPLB trial that ends six weeks before market age. Here is the half that has numbers.
The comparison everyone makes runs both birds on pesos per kilo. Four in five native chicken keepers in a 584-respondent Region 1 survey never sell by the kilo at all, which is where most native-versus-broiler arithmetic quietly falls apart.
The Bureau of Animal Industry files Newcastle disease as Rapidly Spreading and avian influenza as Endemic, then pays for the second one and not the first. The whole Philippine Newcastle record at WOAH is two events, the current one a five-bird backyard flock in Bataan.
There is no such thing as the Philippine chicken price. For June 2026 there are eleven, every one correct: seven priced by the kilo from ₱117.47 to ₱343.40, and four eggs priced by the piece.
